Tongits Go rules and strategy
Basic Rules
Tongits Go is played with a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives a set number of cards at the start. The goal is to form melds (sets or sequences) with your cards and empty your hand as quickly as possible, or hold the lowest points when the game ends.
- Set: three or four cards of the same value (e.g., three 7s)
- Sequence: three or more consecutive cards of the same suit
- Tongits: if you can place all your cards in melds, call Tongits
- Champion: the player with the lowest points at the end of the round wins
- The game ends when the draw deck runs out or someone calls "Sapao"
Winning Strategy: Tips from Experienced Players
Discard high-value cards quickly: Holding face cards (K, Q, J) for too long increases your points. Discard them at the earliest opportunity or use them in a meld.
Watch your opponents' moves: Pay attention to which cards other players are picking up and discarding. This helps you estimate the likely state of their hands.
Know when to call Sapao: If you have low points in hand and a Tongits is not possible, call "Sapao" at the right moment to end the round.
Keep multiple meld paths open: Instead of focusing on just one set, keep two or three possible meld paths available — a flexible strategy is what wins in the long run.
